Barrett T. Lynch

Barry is a twelve-year veteran of the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) and is the co-founder and CEO of Waypoint. Barry attended West Texas A&M University where he received a bachelor’s degree in business administration with an emphasis in Finance, followed by a master’s degree in business administration from Texas Tech University.  He and his wife Judy have been married for over twenty years and have one son, Thomas.

Early in Barry’s career with NCUA, he uncovered several high priority fraud cases which catapulted him into his specialty designation within the agency as a Recordkeeping and Internal Controls (RIC) Specialist.  As a result, he received many rewards and acknowledgements.  Most significantly, he was awarded the NCUA’s Examiner of the Year designation for Region 4 three different times.  Since that time, Barry and the Waypoint team have been involved in over 20 fraud cases throughout the United States, even testifying as expert witnesses for the U.S. Attorney’s office on several occasions.

Since March, of 2014, Barry has spent the better part of his time focusing on and serving as interim CEO for a number of credit unions.

Greg R. Schmidt, CPA (Retired)

Co-founder of Waypoint Advisory Services, Inc.

Greg is a 1989 graduate of Texas Tech University, and holds a degree in Accounting and Finance.  He is also a Certified Public Accountant as well as a Certified Fraud Examiner.  Greg started his own accounting firm in 1996, specializing in tax and business consulting.  In 1999, Greg began working with credit unions performing internal control testing and providing audit services.  Greg enjoys running, and spending time with his wife Shelly. He recently retired from Waypoint, but continues to be a valuable asset to the Waypoint team.

Brandon McDaniel  

Partner & DFW Regional Supervisor

Brandon McDaniel worked as a credit union examiner for the Texas Credit Union Department (TCUD) for nearly 10 years.  After leaving the agency, he spent some time as an internal auditor at EECU in Fort Worth.  His experience and skill set make him the perfect lead on any state-chartered credit union audits, as well as the team’a go-to guy for state-specific compliance issues.  Brandon received his bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of North Texas in 2002. He resides in the DFW area with his wife and three children.

Lauren Quill VanBeckum, CPA

Partner & West Texas Regional Supervisor

Lauren moved to Amarillo after completing her B.S. in Chemical Engineering at The University of Toledo. While working as an engineer at Proctor & Gamble, she completed her MBA at West Texas A&M University in Canyon, TX. After ten years in the engineering field, she made the decision to join the Waypoint family. Lauren is a licensed CPA, and is the architect of Waypoint’s CECL model. She and her husband Sam live in Amarillo, TX and enjoy golfing (whenever it’s not too windy!)

Wayne Watters

Partner & Denver Regional Supervisor

Wayne is a graduate of UT El Paso and a former credit union CEO. He began his career in financial services in 1997 and made the jump to credit unions in 1998. Most recently, Wayne served Austin based Travis County CU as their CEO from 2011 to 2019 before making the move to Waypoint. His excellence has been demonstrated in compliance, improving internal processes and controls, leadership development, and member engagement. Wayne now adds his expertise to Waypoint’s lineup of qualified staff. His insight will complement your credit union’s strength through each of his audits from BSA to Reg Z and everything in between.

Cale Hawley

Partner, Senior Accounting Advisor, & Marketing Manager

Cale is a graduate of West Texas A & M University and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. Cale has over 17 years of experience in sales and marketing, including pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, pharmacy services, and consulting. Cale’s marketing roles over the years have included sales, marketing, advertising, public relations and entrepreneurship. Cale’s expertise includes marketing plan development and implementation, lead generation, and client relationship management and pipeline development. Cale also manages Waypoint’s promotional items company, and enjoys helping our credit unions find quality items for their members. You may catch Cale and his wife Jessica at sporting events on the weekends, as they have four very active kids.

Lucas Pequeño

Senior Accounting Advisor

Lucas started in banking in 2009 as a branch teller. He continued in the industry as he worked toward completing his bachelor’s degree from Texas Tech University. He has worked in the accounting function at various credit unions in West Texas until he joined the Waypoint Team after serving as the controller of a mid-sized credit union. He was a 2018 Cornerstone Leadership Conference Crasher, 2019 CUNA GAC Crasher, and 2019 Catalyst Corporate Credit Union Young Professional. He resides in Lubbock, TX with his son, Samuel.

Kent David

Associate Auditor

Kent joined the Waypoint team in 2020. Kent is a proud Texas A&M graduate, and earned a bachelor’s degree in Finance. He started off his career in Commercial Lending and Ag Lending. He also operates a catering business and specializes in barbecue. When he is not auditing or catering, he volunteers much of his time with Kids Inc, the Tri State Fair and Exposition, and the Coors Cowboy Club. He and his wife Cyndi are the proud parents of two great kids, Claire and Will.

Jennifer Wright, CPA

Jennifer hails from Waco, TX but cheers on the Aggies, as she graduated from Texas A&M with a degree in accounting. She specializes in Internal Controls testing and Bank Secrecy Act Reviews. In her free time, she enjoys playing tennis and keeping up with her two sets of twins.

Trenton McDaniel

Associate Auditor

Trenton is a recent graduate of Oklahoma State University and earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting with a minor in economics. Trenton joined Waypoint in 2022 and is the second employee in our fast-growing Dallas-Fort Worth market. He is eager to join and learn everything about the credit union industry. While he is not working, Trenton enjoys watching football and European soccer.

Paul “Ty” Tysinger

Associate Auditor

Ty has worked in the finance industry for over 10 years, with experiences in credit score consultation, coaching and repair planning, and guiding consumers towards purchasing a home. He also worked in a branch as a banker, worked with private clients as an investment manager after getting his series 6. Most recently, he worked as a mortgage underwriter and workers compensation auditor. His background in a variety of areas helps him understand a credit union from many angles, enabling him to provide unique insight in any situation. When he is not working, Ty enjoys snowboarding, golfing, gardening, cooking, home DIY projects, and spending hours of free time with his wife and dog.

Yaneli Hernandez

Yaneli is a credit union industry professional with three years of experience under her belt. She began her career as a Member Service Representative and quickly advanced to other departments, gaining valuable knowledge and expertise along the way. She is passionate about the credit union movement and is committed to building meaningful relationships. Yaneli holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance from West Texas A&M University. In her free time, she enjoys spending quality time with her family and exploring new destinations through travel.

Nolan Gimpel

Nolan is a graduate of West Texas A&M University, who earned his bachelor’s degree in finance. He began his time at Waypoint as an intern in his last semester. During his free time, he helps lead a bible study of young men, and occasionally assists the worship team at his church. If he isn’t doing either of those things, you can find him with his wife Madison working out, cooking, or discussing books they’ve read.

Taylor Parton, a finance graduate from WTAMU, finds joy in both professional and personal pursuits. Taylor joined the Waypoint team in 2023. When he isn’t working, he enjoys exploring new places with his wife, spending time with friends and family, and engaging in outdoor activities like backpacking and hiking.

Kimberly Boydstun

Kimberly is the cornerstone of Waypoint, seamlessly blending her expertise as a former real estate agent with her role in overseeing operations. Her commitment to client happiness is evident in her meticulous management style and personalized interactions. Beyond the professional realm, Kimberly finds joy in family, spending quality time with her three sons and their families. Briana Carthel

Office Manager & Scheduling Coordinator

Briana joined Waypoint after working in all departments at a local credit union for five years. Most of her time was spent Managing the Service Center, training new hires, and helping with the implementation of numerous online conversions. Her positive attitude and willingness to jump in wherever makes her the perfect complement to Waypoint’s Office Staff. In her free time, Briana volunteers as the Director for World Champ Camp, a youth wrestling camp started by Olympic Gold Medalist Brandon Slay. Briana and her husband Vaden enjoy running, gardening, and taking care of their dog, chickens, and bees together.
